On Demand CIO

I WANT TO BE YOUR ON-DEMAND CIO

Chief Information Officer (CIO) is a job title commonly given to the person in an enterprise responsible for the information technology and computer systems that support enterprise goals. As information technology and systems have become more important, the CIO has come to be viewed in many organizations as a key contributor in formulating strategic goals.
- Wikipedia CIO Entry

PEACE OF MIND
When you have well defined strategic goals, every person in your organization can focus more fully on execution, instead of feeling the uncertainty when such goals are missing or lack precise definition.

Kelley Graham + Global Literacy Foundation

I've been asked to perform the duties of CIO + CTO for the Global Literacy Foundation. Exciting times. Watch for more over as the year progresses.

We have a compelling message and great projects in the works.

Modern Definition of Literacy
<quote>"Literacy is the ability to identify, understand, interpret, create, communicate and compute, using printed and written materials associated with varying contexts. Literacy involves a continuum of learning to enable an individual to achieve his or her goals, to develop his or her knowledge and potential, and to participate fully in the wider society."</quote>

Literacy Now! is both a message and an approach.

The Invisible Man

So, I've been thinking a bit lately on technology's role in learning, or eLearning, if you will. My goal as CTO is to become the invisible man. Tech should serve users, not the other way around.

As is obvious from this website, I'm an opensource advocate and lately have been annoyed with how much 'stuff' old-school software vendors impose on the users of their products. If you really set down and think about the major barriers to innovation, you must consider the so-called 'investment' in 'the way it's always been done' near the top of the list. How many proprietary companies are actively trying to become invisible? Their corporate mission is precisely the opposite.

New Tools To Solve Old Problems

New Tech
Today, November 16th, is the 15th anniversary of the first web page. Since 1990 internet technology has made astounding advances. The hype is thankfully over and in the last few years the web has quietly made good on many of its' early promises.
The purpose of this discussion is to bring some of these advances to your attention and show how your business can benefit.

 Old Problems
Reaching new customers and keeping existing ones are central activities to the long term health of any company. Gettings leads is quick and easy compared to the time spent building productive relationships with those customers. New communication and productivity tools are enabling businesses to more easily identify and highlight their differentiating corporate values.

What's Toasterz?

A geeky definition could be:

"An ubiquitous appliance that performs well a clearly defined task...
easy and intuitive to operate, requiring little maintenance."

Delicious lightly burned bread, mmm... perfect everytime.

Technology should be about users, not the other way around. Today's knowledge tools are slightly more involved than toasters, but should aspire to be as intuitive and easy to use.
